WEDNESDAY QUICK HITS
L.A. DODGERS @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
A pitchers duel in the rubber match in this series between Phillies Cole Hamels and Dodgers Hiroki Kuroda was what everyone was expecting and was exactly what the fans got.
Kuroda went 5.1 innings and gave up one run on four hits, walked three and had seven strikeouts.
The lone run allowed by Kuroda was a solo shot by Ryan Howard,
his thirteenth of the 2011 season.
With the loss Koroda is now 5-7 this year.
Hamels pitched eight shut out innings, scattered six hits, with no walks and nine K's. Hamels is putting up tremendous numbers this season and is becoming the 'Ace' of 'Aces' on the Phillies staff. With the 2-0 win Hamels is now 8-2. Ryan Madson pitched the ninth and collects his fourteenth save in fourteen attempts.
The offense AGAIN was weak for the Phillies as they could only connect for five hits against the Dodgers. However once again we say a win is a win. Howard's home run was the Phillies first in 65 1/3 innings, and the Phillies were 16 for 90 (.178) in the three game series in which the Phillies won two games to one.
The Phillies are 37-25 and the Dodgers are 29-34.
