The rubber match today went to the Phillies as they defeated the Mets by a final score of 8-5. This is the seventh straight series win for the Phillies and the fourth time this season they won the series against the Mets.
Kyle Kendrick (5-4) started for the Phillies and gets the win. Kyle went seven innings giving up a single run on six hits with three walks. Antonio Bastardo recorded his sixth save for Philadelphia.
Michael Martinez had a three run homer, the first in the rookies major league career. He had a career high four RBI game adding a sacrifice in the seventh inning. Martinez is playing third base for injured Placido Polanco.
The Phillies scored eight runs on eleven hits. Jimmy Rollins had a great day going three for five with two RBI, Brian Schneider went two for three and even pitcher Kyle Kendrick was two for two with a run scored.
Mike Pelfrey (5-9) started for the Mets and gets the loss.
The Mets are back to .500 at 47-47 and the Phillies get to within one of their 60th win of the season and are now 59-35.
