FRIDAY QUICK HITS
SAN DIEGO PADRES @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
Cole Hamels picked up another win and did so in All Star fashion. Hamels went eight strong-strong innings allowing one run on three hits walked one and had ten K's. He also retired the last ten batters he faced.
On a hot night in Philly, temperature 98, Cole was cool, calm and collected, as he improved his record to 12-5 this season. Hamels is now tied for the most wins in the National League with Jair Jurrjens from Atlanta.
Ryan Madson is back and he pitched a perfect ninth for his sixteenth save this year. Madson came off the disabled list last week and Antonio Bastardo filled in well for Madson in his absence.
The Phillies only managed six hits for three runs but it was enough for the win. Three of the hits were doubles one each from Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz and John Mayberry Jr. All three now have twelve doubles each this season.
Corey Luebke (3-4) started for San Diego and gets the loss.
The Phillies still have the best record in baseball and are now 62-36, 26 games over .500, the most this season. The Padres are now 44-56.
