The first game of the series belonged to the Nationals and especially Livan Hernandez. He shut the Phillies down with his pitching and also drove in a couple of runs with his bat. Hernandez went 6.2 innings allowing one run on four hits, with one walk and three K's. His record is now 7-11 this season. Drew Storen collected save #31 for the Nationals.

Rick Ankiel and Jayson Werth had one RBI each and Hernandez had the other two for the Nationals 4-2 win.
Cole Hamels was looking four his fourteenth win but instead gets his seventh loss of the year and is now 13-7. He went five innings allowing three runs on six hits walking four batters with five K's.
The Phillies offense was off a little getting only six hits and scoring two runs. Ryan Howard was two for four. Hunter Pence and Wilson Valdez had the only two RBI for the Phillies.
Philadelphia just finished a 9-1 road trip, the best in franchise history. They lose game one against the Nationals and their record is 77-41, still best in the majors. Washington is 57-61.
