WEDNESDAY QUICK HITS

ATLANTA BRAVES @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

Roy Oswalt was looking good tonight in the third and final game of the three game series between the Phillies and Braves. The Phillies were up two games to none and looking for the sweep. Roy did his job and the Phillies won the third game to complete the sweep against the Braves by a final of 3-2.

 

Oswalt did not allow a hit until the sixth inning. He pitched seven innings giving up two runs on four hits, with four walks and seven K's. No decision for Roy but great game. Antonio Bastardo pitched the  eighth and Ryan Madson the ninth. The Phillies scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth and Madson picks up the win to go to 4-2 this season.

On the mound for Atlanta to start, was Brandon Beachy and he pitched a gem. Beachy went 5.2 innings allowing one run on two hits, one walk and seven K's. No decision for Beachy either, the loss goes to Peter Moylan (1-1) who allowed the winning run in  the ninth inning.

The Phillies scored three runs on six hits. Raul Ibanez homered, a solo shot in the second inning. Placido Polanco had a two out RBI single in the eighth to tie the game.
In the ninth it was Ross Gload with the winning RBI for the win.
 

Chase Utley left tonight's game with a possible concussion two innings after being hit in the head with a pitch by Eric O'Flaherty.
 

The Phillies are now 91-48, they are 10.5 games ahead of the Braves. They are now 8-2 in my "Final 33", nine wins from 100 with 23 games left in the regular season.
