FRIDAY QUICK HITS
ST. LOUIS CARDINALS @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
Another extra inning game for the Phillies but unlike Thursday's game when the Phillies won tonight it was not to be. The Cardinals win the first game of the series by a score of 4-2 in eleven innings.
Vance Worley started the game for the Phillies and went against the Cardinal's Jaime Garcia. Both pitched well and neither pitcher was involved in the decision. Garcia went seven innings allowing one run on five hits. Vance pitched six innings allowing one run on six hits. Kyle McClellan (12-6) gets the win and Michael Schwimer (1-1) the loss for Philadelphia.
The Phillies offense was all but absent once again getting only seven hits in the eleven inning game, scoring only two runs.
The Phillies will look to Saturday for a win and the NL east title.
Philadelphia is now 97-52, 13-7 in the "Final 33", three games from the 100 win mark with thirteen games remaining.
