SATURDAY QUICK HITS
PHILLIES 2011 NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST CHAMPIONS
ST. LOUIS CARDINALS @ PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES
The Phillies were looking to tie the series with the Cardinals in game two and had Roy Oswalt on the mound to start the game. Philadelphia also knew that the Braves won their game earlier and would have to win to clinch the NL east title.
Roy pitched seven strong innings allowing no runs, no walks, just five hits and had seven K's. Michael Stutes pitched the eighth and gave up two runs but Brad Lidge came in to put the fire out. The Phillies went to bat in the bottom of the eighth with a 3-2 score and wanted an insurance run or two. They got six instead to pull ahead 9-2. Ryan Madson finished the game pitching the ninth and the final was 9-2. Most important they won the NL EAST for the fifth time in a row! Time to celebrate and then back to work.
Roy Oswalt gets the win and is now 8-9. The Phillies bats came alive as they scored nine runs on ten hits with seven walks. Shane Victorino had a solo home run and Raul Ibanez a grand slam. Jimmy Rollins went four for five and Shane was two for three with a walk.
Philadelphia is now 98-52, 14-7 in the "Final 33", two from the 100 win mark, with twelve games remaining and are 2011 National East Champions!
