St. Louis at Texas

The World Series continued today after having Friday off and moving to Texas for the next three games. The series was tied going into today's game.

So far the bats have been silent for both teams with five runs scored in game one and three in game two.
Today the Cardinals changed that by scoring five runs in the first four innings of play. Allen Craig had a solo shot in the first to give the Cardinals a quick one run lead.

 

In the fourth they added four more runs on a David Freeze double and run scoring single by Ryan Theriot. They were also aided by a throwing error by Mike Napoli.

Down 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth Texas went long ball to get back in the game. Michael Young hit a solo shot and Nelson Cruiz a two run shot to make the score 5-3. So by the start of the fifth inning both teams combined for eight runs which tied the total for games one and two. Nice to see some offense. Well you ain't seen nothing yet!

The Cardinals scored three more in the fifth, four in the sixth, two in the seventh and one in the eighth and ninth. Yes that would be sixteen total runs.

 

Texas was not done either but they could not keep pace. They scored three in the fifth and once more in the seventh. Final score 16-7.

The star of the night was Albert Pujols. He had three home runs and drove in six runs with five hits. Albert joins two greats who nailed three back in the day, Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson. Babe Ruth did it twice in 1926 and 1928 and Jackson once in 1977. His six RBI tied Bobby Richardson in 1960, Hideki Matsui in 2009.

Matt Harrison takes the loss for Texas. Lance Lynn gets the win for the Cardinals as St. Louis goes up two games to one in the best of seven.
