Rod to go on umpire exchange to SA

"Australian umpire Rod Tucker has been selected to go to South Africa and will officiate in two SuperSport Series matches (CSA's first-class competition)," Cricket Australia said.

"Rod's rise from first-class player to international umpire has highlighted the success of the Project Panel, introduced in the 2002-03 season," said Cricket Australia's General Manager Cricket, Michael Brown.

"This exchange with South Africa will allow Australian umpires to be better prepared for the demands of international cricket."

"I'm really looking forward to experiencing umpiring on a different continent. As a player I toured overseas, but I've never had the experience of officiating in another country," he said.

"It will be something very new; umpiring within different cultures. It is a new challenge and something that I'm both excited and nervous about.

"I'm very thankful for this opportunity which will further my experience for the future challenges of umpiring on the international stage.

"I had my first taste of international cricket this summer, making my official debut during the Commonwealth Bank Series and I'm hoping that this exchange in South Africa will help further develop my skills for further international opportunities to come."
