Vettori workload worries Crowe

"I do worry about the fact that they've called up Daniel Vettori, our captain, our best batsman and our best bowler to now take on the role of a selector," Martin Crowe said.

"It's going to be a heavy workload for him and I worry about the burn-out factor."

"He has to make sure he's scoring as many runs as he has been in the last four or five (matches) and taking wickets," Crowe said.

"That's the priority for me and I hope he's not going to be in four/five hour meetings with the selection panel because that will only drain him.

"The media aren't just going to leave their questions to tactics on the field they are going to be asking questions about selection and that's another aspect thrown into the mix," he added.

"I just know it is an exhausting job being national cricket captain and I just think, with his workload as a player, this is going to be huge."

"He is the best batsman in the side at the moment. He's the most equipped to do the job in Test cricket yet he is down at number eight and sometimes number nine when we throw in a night watchman and I just think that's a waste.

"I still believe Daniel can do the same work he's been doing with the ball and we're going to get more runs out of him, more hundreds in fact."
