Warm up to the greatest soccer match on the planet!
Barcelona and Real Madrid will face each other on Saturday, 2nd March in Spanish league at Madrid in what may be described as the greatest football match in the world ,even though English clubs will disagree. Both teams are in contrasting forms coming into this match and past two weeks have seen a complete reversal in fortunes of Barcelona. They looked like the best team in the world a couple of weeks ago but their inexplicable loss to a young and inexperienced Milan side has still experts looking for explanation. On Monday they were defeated by Real Madrid on home ground in Copa Del rey with Cristiano Ronaldo in menacing form. The worst thing for Barcelona is that their talismanic player has gone off the boil for the moment at least. But we are not sure how much of all this recent form is going to matter when the real match begins. In professional sports you have to go out everyday and prove yourself again and again and sports journalists’ favorite terminology of psychological advantage may safely be confined to newspaper columns and TV analysis. The consolation for Barcelona at the moment is that they are too far ahead in La Liga this season and even an adverse result is not going to affect them too much. For Madrid it will be an opportunity to close the gap on Atletico Madrid.Apart from the usual comparison between Messi and Ronaldo in which later has the edge on current form this will be a contest between two great sides who are also in the running for becoming Champions of Europe, yes I will not rule out Barcelona scoring three against Milan in return-leg.All the noise about Barca’s poor form after just two defeats only indicates that we have become so used to their domination that even a momentary lag in the aura of invincibility around them has made their fans concerned and rivals cocky. While the whole world is talking about Messi’s form who is a doubtful starter, one would not be too surprised if indefatigable Andres Iniesta once again proves to be the savior of Barcelona
