Assad or Al Qaeda
I f you had the choice between good and evil, you'd choose good. If you had the choice between freedom and murder, you'd choose freedom. But what if it's either evil or murder? That's the UN's biggest concern when they talk about Syria, Assad and Al Qaeda. The free Syrian Army warned that the regime of Bashir-al Assad had moved chemical weapons to airports on Syria's borders. Two days ago Assad released a statement in which he said "I will use chemical weapons if we were attacked by outside forces."
That itself is dangerous enough, but what if "Al Qaeda" terrorists who are among the free Syrian Army fighters, gain access to weapons of mass destruction. A few weeks ago Senior Intelligence officials confirmed that Al Qaeda might be worse than Assad. "Assad is predictable, but the only thing we know about Al Qaeda is that they will use these weapons against the international community, but we don't know when, where or how." President Obama released a statement after Assad confirmed that Syria does have chemical weapons. " Given the regime's stockpiles of chemical weapons, we will continue to make it clear to Assad and those around him that the world is watching and that they will be held accountable by the international community, and the United States, should they make the tragic mistake of using those weapons," Obama told the VFW convention in Reno.
These reports came only a few hours after the death toll in the syrian uprising topped 19,000. At the same time syrian rebels launched an operation to liberate the country's largest city of Aleppo. "Aleppo is witnessing serious street battles. We urge the resident of Aleppo to stay in their homes until the city is liberated," said a speaker of the Free Syrian Army.
One thing is for sure, the senseless bloodshed has to stop. But it has to be stopped by outside forces, because one day the rebels will reach Assad's presidential palace. If that happens the free syrian army will gain control of the country an the chemical weapons. And if that happens, it's only a matter of time until Al Qaeda has the equipment they need for a mass extinction.
