Erika and German Clouet Killed by DUI Uriel Perez Palacios
Uriel Perez Palacios, 22, had already been arrested four times for driving drunk when he led police on a high-speed chase that ended up killing two and injuring at least five others.
Driving away from police with his lights off, Uriel Perez Palacios sped through a red light early Monday morning and smashed into a car carrying five Southern Methodist University students injuring them all but not killing them. The momentum of the crash catapulted Palacios' car into the air, bringing it down upon a vehicle carrying Erika and German Clouet, married just one month ago, killing them both. A passenger in Palacios' car was also seriously injured but Palacios himself was hospitalized with minor injuries.
Uriel Perez Palacios was charged with two counts of murder and three counts of intoxicated assault. He had been jailed at least twice before, had been involved in two other police chases and had four outstanding warrants for drugs and DWI.
Erika Clouet, 24, was a second-grade teacher who colleagues described as a wonderful teacher. Her husband of just over a month, German Clouet, 23, worked construction and was a musician.
