For Louisiana's Prison Inmates Contemplating Escape, Guards Are Least Of Worries
For those serving time behind bars at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, it might be in your best interesting to remain in your cell within the prison. Should you attempt an escape and succeed, the prison guards are the least of your worries. If you manage to elude the guards, you still have to worry about the four-hundred pound black bear that is living in the middle of the property.
To Warden Burl Cain, the bear is a godsend. Why? It benefits Cain in more ways than one.
One benefit is that the bear works as a good deterrent against prisoners. Most prison breaks take place at night. For the prisoners that do escape, the guards are the least of their worries.
The other benefit is that the bear acts as another security guard. In that respect, Cain gets a security guard that he does not have to put on the payroll. However, there might be at least ten bears in that area.
But wildlife experts believe otherwise. However, there are still other forms of dangerous wildlife. If the bears do not deter the prisoners, there are other things to worry about.
