Hurricane Ike Mystery Ship at Fort Morgan, Alabama
Hurricane Ike unearthed a 150-foot long ship that dates back to the Civil War on a beach in Fort Morgan, Alabama.
The mysterious ship has been uncovered by hurricanes before, most recently by Ivan in 2004, but never has so much of the buried vessel been visible as there is now. The remains are being called a "mystery ship" because nobody really knows what it was used for or how it came to rest on the Fort Morgan, AL beach. Historians think it was a blockade-runner during the civil war.
At almost 150 feet long and 30 feet wide, the boat is relatively well preserved for being exposed to the elements for so many years. One of the best preserved parts of the ship is a series of water pumps running inside the ship and along its perimeter.
Visitors are delighted by the unearthing of what they have come to call the "Hurricane Ike Mystery Ship."
