Tom Daschle selected as Obama's health chief
Former Senate majority leader Tom Daschle was tapped Wednesday to serve as secretary of Health and Human Services in the Obama administration, even though he works for a Washington lobbying firm that represents health care interests.
Two Democratic officials with direct knowledge of the discussions between Daschle and President-elect Barack Obama confirmed that the South Dakota Democrat has accepted the position. The officials asked for anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly about appointments.
