UnnayanNews is a multimedia and development webzine that actively promotes human rights and development matters through its issue based publications and list serving .Its an independent non-political platform and South Asian first online multimedia journalism initiative. Along with news dissemination and story telling, it does advocacy for majority access to information and democratic participation in development process that profoundly impact to solve the digital divide, poverty alleviation and human rights development as well as to establish the desired harmonious, peaceful information society. Initially it will publish quaternary with local and regional contents. The idea of the UnnayanNews initiative come to inspire, involve and empowerment Bangladeshi grassroots development leaders through multimedia presentation. Since inception, June 2002 the listserv UnnayanNews is regularly disseminating the development news, opportunity and success story nationwide to eliminate obstacles and misunderstanding. However transferring the opportunity from advantaged arena to that of disadvantaged. Day by day the popularity of UnnayanNews is increasing to target levels. Presently it is connected with 4300 NGOs and development practitioners along with limitless internet users. With the experience and situation demand the periphery of the initiative is expanding which was started from yahoo group, “unnayan-news” with seven listed members. With the pioneer sprit UnnayanNews has started mission 2005 by launching web based Bangladesh first development multimedia journal. Although Bangladesh has low internet speed and limited access to new media, the initiative would be impact positively to take community based multimedia initiative. It will regularly feature the development and rights matters with multimedia technology by expressing majority peoples' opinions and democratic participation thinking; however will promote web and multimedia as action media for social development. "News Makes Development " is UnnayanNews' working motto. However objective views and positive approach with social commitment are the working ethos of UnnayanNews. It will select the theme with the spirit of change; public service, communal unity and equity; priority to millennium development goals ( MDG), universal human rights, culture of peace establishment.
