12 Rallies For Suu Kyi

Protestors in these twelve cities are demonstrating in front of the Chinese embassies worldwide. One would ask why are they demonstrating in front of the Chinese embassies. The demonstrators have stated that China holds the key to placing pressure on Burma’s government to release Suu Kyi from house arrest. She has been placed under house arrest by the military junta for twelve years.

During the demonstrations, the protestors have worn masks of Suu Kyi’s face in support of her. They have also worn white cloth in support of the political dissidents still being detained by the Burmese military junta. Much pressure has been placed on Burma’s governments ever since the violent suppression of pro-democracy protests.

Demonstrations have taken place in London, Paris, Brasilia, New York City, Cape Town, and Bangkok. A small group had gathered outside the Chinese embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Australian government has announced sanctions against Burma’s military junta. It is said that the sanctions would target four-hundred and eighteen individuals that includes both top military officials and cabinet ministers.

China is one of Burma’s closest allies. It is stated that China is concerned about how Burma is handling things but prefer not to interfere.

While the Burmese government state that ten people have died, diplomats worldwide believe that the true numbers are much higher.
