The Mao terrorists attacked the bus carrying passengers from Gadiras to Bhusaras in Dantewada district, using Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at around 16:45 hrs. The SPOs, who are civilians assisting police in fighting the Naxals (Mao terrorists) were attached to Dantewada police. The bus was on its way from Dantewada to Sukma.
The IED was planted on a metal road and detonated by the Maoists using remote control device. Union Home Ministry condemned the attack and said most of the killed were civilians. We strongly condemn the attack, said G K Pillai, Home Secretary,
The attack clearly exposed the barbarism of Mao terrorists. Reports prove that this was a pointed attack on civilians, a deadly attack on unarmed men. Land mine blast is followed by indiscriminate firing by the Maoists. Maoists continuously fired on the bus to make sure no one survived.
The attack came a day before the Maoists' call for a 48-hour strike in five states, including Chatisgarh, from tomorrow in protest against the security operations launched against them by the Centre.
BJP, which is in power in Chatisgarh, strongly condemned the attack and demanded that the menace of Naxalism should be fought with full strength.
"This is a barbaric attack and BJP strongly condemns it. The government should further strengthen its resources to fight Naxalism. This menace has to be fought with full strength and vigour," BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said.
On April 6, 2010, the Mao terrorists barbarically butchered 76 CRPF jawans in the same state. In
