ACOIN organizes IVth National CME Session-2012 in Srinagar
Srinagar, June 29(Scoop News) –Association of Community Ophthalmologist of India (ACOIN) & Kashmir Ophthalmologist Society (KOS) in collaboration with International Society of Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgeons (ISMSICS) and Vision 2020: The Right to Sight India today organized 2-day ACOIN IVth National Continuing Medical Education (CME) Session-2012 on ‘Glaucoma in Kashmir Valley’ at Government Medical College, Srinagar in which over 150 participants are taking part.
Deputy Director General (DDG), Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi Dr. R S Dhaliwal was the chief guest on occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Dhaliwal said that ICMR is the apex body in the country which deals with the health related areas and promotion of biomedical researches. He said it was set-up with the specific objectives for sponsoring and coordinating medical research in the country.
Referring to CME, Dr. Dhaliwal said that it helps medical professionals in maintaining competency and learn about new and developing areas of their field from experts through refresher courses, publications, online programmes, audio video and live events as well.
Stressing the need for sensitizing the general masses about Glucoma, the DDG said Glucoma is an eye disease which is the main cause of permanent blindness, adding that it can be prevented and treated if diagnosed timely. He lauded the role of Associations particularly KOS for bringing the disease Glucoma at fore front by conducting camps at Harwan in Srinagar, Sumbal in Bandipora and Chadoora in Budgam districts of Valley.
Exhorting upon the medical professionals, Dr. Dhaliwal said that they have to prepare projects to know the reasons of this eye diseases and devise innovate measures for their effective medicare.
Describing the conclave an important scientific meeting of the professionals, Principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar Prof. Rafiq Pampori said that deliberations during the sessions would be beneficial for the participants in up-dating their knowledge.
Chairman& Founder President of International Society of Manual Small Cataract Surgeons Dr. Amulaya Sahu and General Secretary, Association of Community Ophthalmologist of India, Dr. Swapan K Samantha speaking on the occasion highlighted the activities of their respective organizations and suggested measures in dealing with the diseases of eyes.
In his welcome address, President, Kashmir Ophthalmologist Society & Head of Ophthalmologist department, GMC, Srinagar Dr. Manzoor Qadir Keng underlined the aim for organizing the CME Session in the Valley. It would be useful for making strategy and action plan for eye care in the valley, he added.
