Amar Nath Yatra-2009-Fool- proof security arrangements of Amar Nath Yatra commencing from June 07

Inspector General of Police,Jammu K.Rajendra Kumar held a meeting of senior Police officers at Zonal Police Headquarters today to review the security arrangements of Amar Nath Yatra-2009 commencing from 07-6-2009.

The IGP stressed that a frequent checking /search operations should be launched in the suspected areas and hard work is required to be done to neutralise the dreaded terrorists operating inside our territory . IGP admitted that in Jammu Zone, the terrain is very tough in areas like Doda , Kishtwar, Gool, Mahore etc. where response time is lengthier as compared to other region where the most of the areas are plains and road connectivity is much better for fast mobility of forces .These problems can be overcome by developing specific intelligence about presence and movement of terrorists for launching surgical operations against the terrorists .
IGP said that there is tremendous decrease in terrorism, but the same has not finished yet, as is evident of recent killings of dreaded terrorists in the mountainous district of Doda . It is time to remain extremely vigilant and alert in view of the forth coming of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2009 as terrorists seems to be determined to disturb the peace in the region.

In Srinagar the meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Masud Samoon,IGP, Kashmir, IG Traffic, Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, DIG Srinagar, Col. 15 Corps, Director Health Services, Kashmir, Director Tourism, Director Local Bodies Kashmir, Conservator of Forests, Kashmir, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Director CA&PD, Chief Engineers of PHE, R&B and PDD besides General Manager BSNL, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, SSPs of Srinagar and Anantnag and representatives of Information department, Shrine Board and Metrological departments.
The meeting discussed the measures being taken to maintain and preserve the ecology and environment of the area. The Divisional Commissioner directed the concerned authorities and Shrine Board to co ordinate in order to provide better sanitation facilities, parking of vehicles, provision of essentials like foodgrains, LPG, K. Oil, firewood, medicare facilities, water and power supply to the yatries from the base camp upto Holy Cave and also from Baltal area to the Cave.
The Shrine Board representative, S.P. Singh assured the Divisional Commissioner that all possible efforts would be made to ensure cleanliness in Pahalgam and Baltal during the whole yatra period.
The Director, Tourism and JKTDC were directed to ensure that adequate tentage facilities are available on both the routes for the yatries. The Shrine Board was also asked to make pre fabricated huts available to the departments as per their requirements.
The meeting was informed that 7000 quintals of firewood would be stocked by the Forest department while 10,000 LPG cylinders besides rice and other essentials would be made available at all halting stations enroute holy Cave. The SRTC will keep sufficient number of buses available for the yatries. The Municipal Council, Anantnag was asked to set up sanitary units at Mir Bazar for the convenience of yatries. It was decided that scavenging on both routes of Phalgam and Baltal would be undertaken by the Shrine Board.
A joint control room would be set up at Phalgam before the commencement of yatra. The BSNL authorities assured that they would ensure fool proof communication system at all halting stations enroute holy Cave.
