BJP strongly condemns the lathi-charge on J&K employees

Jammu, February 21 (Scoop News) – BJP state Chief spokesperson & National Executive Member Dr. Jitendra Singh while strongly condemning the lathi-charge and use of brutal force against peaceful protest by leaders and activists of State employees unions, said such arrogance and high handedness on the part of state administration smacks of dictatorial tendencies not conducive with the spirit of democracy.

He called upon the state authorities to immediately address the genuine demands of the employees and fulfill the promises made to them. He alleged that from time to time the government diffuses the employees stir by setting a deadline to pay their pending arrears and thereafter backs out from its commitment.

Dr. Singh said that while employees are not even paid their salaries regularly, the state-ups are squandering the state exchequer for maintaining their lavish lifestyle, rennovation of bungalows, unaccounted travel expenses and misuse of state aircraft for personal whims and fancies. He said the austerity must begin from the top with curtailment in the unaccounted state expenditure incurred on ministers, senior bureaucrats and other high-ups.

Dr. Singh said the employees had been agitating for years together for arrears under Sixth Pay Commission, abolition of pay anomalies and regularization of daily wage and contractual employees. He said if the government was genuinely under any kind of the financial constraint, it should begin by imposing financial austerity on its members instead of bringing in legislations every now and then to hike the salaries and perks of ministers and legislators which are now proposed to be hiked to whopping figure of 60,000 to 1 lakh. The employees leader were not only within their right to demand their own legitimate dues but also to demand the payment of arrears to pensioners who were economically more constraint after supernation, he added.
