Can Princess Diana Finally Rest in Peace ?
Ten years after the fatal crash which killed Princesse Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Fayed, the inquest in charge of determining how the couple had died, has come to a end. Following nearly a decade of French court proceedings and British and French police investigations, this inquest was the official British inquiry into the dramatic deaths of the princess of Wales and Fayed while they were trying to flee a swarm of paparazzi photographers.
The inquest determined that :
- The driver, Henri Paul, was indeed drunk
- The paparazzi we're indirectly responsible due to them chasing the car
The jury also determined that :
- The fact that the couple we're not wearing seatbets was a "contributory factor" to their untimely deaths.
This inquest follows several allegations made over the years by Dodi Fayed's father, Mohammed al Fayed, that the British secret service had had a dealing in the car accident. Although visibly disapointed a spokesperson of his said he felt vindicated by the verdict.
Diana, 36, and Dodi 42 years old were killed when their Mercedes-Benz crashed into a pillar under Paris's Pont de L'Alma tunnel. At the time they were being followed by a swarm of paparazzi photographers. The driver Henri Paul died leaving only bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones as the sole survivor.
More than 240 witnesses were heard and it's been said that the inquiry cost an approximate of 16 Million Dollars, or 8 Million Pounds. Perhaps now it is time to let them rest in peace
It should be noted that after gas, oil, wheat and gold prices surge these past few months it is now the price of death that has reached an all time high.
