Cease-fire violation by Pak troops in Mendhar sector

One Jawan killed in Firing

Jammu, June 14 (Scoop News) –  Pakistani  troops opposite the  Mendhar  Sector opened unprovoked and aimed fire, include automatics and sniper-fire on Indian troops, resulting in serious injury to one army jawan who later succumbed to his injury.

The firing was escalated from other Pak posts, using rockets and heavy automatics, to prevent evacuation of the injured jawan.

Offical sources said that a Message was passed through the Hotline to Pakistan, to apply restraint for de-escalating the situation.  Pakistan troops however continued firing on Indian posts.  In response, Indian troops carried out controlled and effective retaliation.

While Indian troops de-escalated the situation by 1700 hours yesterday (13th Jun) and stopped firing, Pak troops continued intermittent Mortar and automatic fire, throughout the night onto own posts.  Mortar and automatic fire by Pak troops continued, as on time of reporting.  The situation remains tense, but under control.
