Congress Factionalism
Days are the gone when Congress in Jammu and Kashmir was famous as a divided house. Neither Common Minimum Programme nor Common Maximum Programme is needed between coalition partners Congress-National Conference (NC). It was proved by partners in elections held for Members of Legislative Council (MLC), widely called as House of Elders. Coalition bagged 5 of six and principal opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got one seat.
One and a half year back, story under caption ‘Congress factionalism to avoid people’ by this journalist was not digested by some stalwarts of Congress in state but now when the era of elections (Legislative Council, Panchyats) is on these stalwarts were compelled to understand change of attitude among the party leaders and members of both the factions. After about two years, it was only a day before the elections for council when head of Jammu and Kashmir Congress Saif-U-Din Soz and loyalist of Ghulam Nabi Azad head of other faction and deputy chief minister Tara Chand shared table.
Come the month of June, Panchyat elections will be over and the change in season of Congress politics in state will again spread its wings for unspecified period and will again change during coming elections of legislative council somewhere in next year, just to avoid people and favor to their blue eyed. Lust of power to Congress leaders has reduced their mentality to such lowest ebb that for power they could go to any extent even do forget Mahatma Gandhi’s universal mantra of non violence.
Congress at the end of day in state of Jammu and Kashmir has its cadre in judiciary, police and even has a full capacity of buying legislators of any party and at any cost. Recently, as per the reports BJP legislators were bought by Congress in coalition with National Conference to continue its dominance. Whatever, be the situation in state, Congress has the important role to play as it has in several states of country. Coalition era launched by Congress in state not only has denigrated dignity of it but has evolved a sense of political instability among all politicians.
