Egypt Sentences Men for Being Gay
It seems Homophobia is still rampant in arab countries as Egypt just recently convincted 5 men to three year prison terms for being gay.
An egyptian judicial official said that 4 HIV-Positive men were convincted and sentenced to three years each in prison followed by three years of close police sureveillance. Their defense lawyer said the judge convicted them of 'habitual practice of debauchery', a crime that Egyptian law defines as 'having sex for money or with a number of partners over an extended period.' This is the legal term used to convict consensual homsexual acts in Egypt.
Please bear in mind that this country brought us father-daughter marriages back in the days of the Pharaoh as well as male makeup. This antic period, is for Egypt, its greatest historic achievement, which is understandable, and they still reap enormous profits from its associated tourist industry. Now if you ask me, teaching these things to kids might be more inducive to debauchery than being HIV-positive. But then again I'm no historian.
