Enthusiasm witnessed among voters in Ladakh in J & K
Leh, May 13 - True to their democratic character, people of Ladakh participated in the 5th and last phase of Parliamentary elections with traditional fervor and enthusiasm today.
Both males and females were in queues waiting to exercise their franchise and demonstrate the power of the ballot.

At 73-Housing Colony A polling station located in Government Middle School, Leh by 11 a.m. long queues of voters were noticed and till that time 204 votes were polled out of the total 701 votes.
Long queues of voters were seen with women, mostly first time voters, outnumbered men at polling station 69-Skara located in
Ms. Khurshida Bano, a Lecturer by profession, standing in the queue said that she is casting her vote for prosperity and development of Leh.
Ms. Gegmet Angmo, B.A final year student and first time voter, expressing her enthusiasm said “I feel thrilled to exercise my democratic right and will vote for development of this hilly area”, adding that she wanted her representative to address the problems confronting the people of the area.
At 37-Indoor Stadium Kargil, a large number of people were seen outside the polling booth. At 2.p.m., 629 people had cast their vote out of 1099 at this polling station. Standing in a long queue, Haji Ghulam Hyder, 90 years old, also had come to exercise democratic right.
At polling station 36 located in Girls Higher Secondary School, Kargil, 401 females had cast their votes by 2 p.m. Large number of women standing in a long queue were anxiously waiting for their turn to cast vote.
Ms. Khatija Akhter, a teacher at G.M.S. Poin Kargil, waiting to cast her vote said that she will vote for an ideal candidate who will positively concentrate on the development and prosperity of this area and for job opportunities of the unemployed youth.
