Exit The Dragon

Santiago Cañizares will play his final match with Valencia this weekend against Atlético Madrid. According to Spanish sports daily Marca the former Olympic gold medalist negotiated with the club in order to terminate his contract despite having one year left.

For the former Spanish international it was a year to forget. A poor run of form during the Quique Sánchez Flores era, left him as the scapegoat in the Ronald Koeman's. It was until Koeman was sent packing was that he was allowed back on the team.

Cañizares, 38, was one of the winningest players in the history of the club. Tee four-time Zamora award winner played in 415 matches for Los Ches and had an extensive resume that included two Spanish league titles, a Copa del Rey, a UEFA Cup, a Spanish Super Cup, and a European Super Cup. This is on top of his two league titles, Champions League title, and Spanish Super Cup with Real Madrid as well as the Olympic goal medal.
