German Authorities Seek Thousands In Child Porn Case
The 12,000 are accused of downloading and/or possessing illegal images of children. This investigation has gone on for several months and spans seventy other countries.
One of the internet service providers in Berlin is credited for helping with the investigation. The provider had suspicious about the large exchange of data and alerted the inquiry about the traffic.
“The material was analysed. Then we called for search warrants,” according to Peter Vogt, the head of the central office that is charged with the task of handling child internet sex abuse.
He was speaking to the German radio station called Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR).
The 300 currently under investigation in Sachsen-Anhalt in the eastern part of Germany are part of those 12,000 suspects being sought after by authorities.
