Voting is currently ongoing throughout Ghana. The atmosphere is generally peaceful. A visit to several polling stations saw people in queues ready to cast their votes. People were seen at the polling staions as early as 2 am local time. All the presidential candidates have voted by now.

A new president will be elected to take over from the current president J.A. Kufour. In addition to that there are 230 parliamentary seats being contested for.

A lot of measures have been put in place to ensure that the process is safe and the results acceptable to all parties. Each candidate is represented by a representative at all polling stations, these agents must sign the result of their polling stations before the result is accepted. The ballot paper must be stamped for it to be valid. The ballot box is transparent so that no one has doubts about the authenticity of the contents after the process. The left last finger of each voter is dipped into indelible ink before they are allowed to vote.

the Electoral Commision promises to release the results within 72 hours after the end of voting. Voting ends at 5 pm local time.
