Peshawar: The government of N.W.F.P has surrendered to the demand of Tehrik-e-Nefaze Shariat Muhammadi( TNSM) for enforcing Sharia in the Malakand Division of North West Pakistan. The Chief Minister along other heads of N.W.F.P government & 30- member delegation of TNSM participated in this grand peace Jirga meeting in Peshawar for working on implementation of Nizam-e-Adal Regulation 2009. Jamat-e-Islami who ruled N.W.F.P in Mudharraf’s regime and paved the way for deployment of forces in Swat refused to participate in the meeting.
After brain storming on different aspects of the proposed Sharia Law in Malakand Division, the government of North West Pakistan & TNSM has singned an agreement under the name of Nizam-e- Adal Regulation 2009 which is an amended form of Nizam-e- Adal Regulation 1999, which will mainly cover Malakand region consisting of Malakand Agency, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Upper Dir, Lower Dir & Kohistan region in Mansehra.
“Under this regulation all laws against Sharia will be abolished & civil cases will be decided within four months and criminal cases will be decided within six months” Mian Iftekhar, the N.W.F.P minister for information told media after Jirga.
Amir Haider Khan Hoti, the CM of North West Pakistan told the media that enforcement of Saria was an unrealized dream of the people of Malakand Division & it will bring peace & harmony to Swat valley & adjacent parts. He also expressed the hope that militant groups will surrender their weapons & will work for restoration of peace. He also stressed the armed forces & security agencies for bringing peace & tranquility in the region.
Referring to the criticism of the Western Media & officials of US & NATO on peace deals with militants, Bashir Bilour, the Senior Minister of N.W.F.P told that we have signed an accord with TNSM and not with the militants of Fazlullah in Swat. “We have signed this deal on the demands of the people & we want to isolate the militants through this treaty” he added.
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yousaf Raza Gilani told the media that Army will leave Swat if peace was restored & writ of the government established in Swat. On the other hand Zerdari, the President of Pakistan in an interview with CBS to air Sunday told that Pakistan is in grave danger from the Taliban, whom he said are present in “huge parts” of Pakistan. “We are aware of the fact (the Taliban) trying to take over the state of Pakistan. So we’re fighting for the survival of Pakistan,” Zardari added. Richard Holbrook has also told in India that India is also at risk from the Taliban on Pakistan.
Muslim Khan, the Taliban spokesman in Swat told that they will provide every sort of support in enforcement of Sharia Regulation in the region. The remarks of Muslim Khan show that TNSM & Tehrik-e-Taliban are the two different manifestations of one & the same movement.
The Western media has criticized the deal of Pakistani government with the militants. Media of the West has highlighted that the Pakistani move is likely to add to the strains between the U. S. and Pakistan, which a nearly completed U.S. military study is expected to say is a more urgent foreign policy challenge ro President Barack Obama than Iraq or Iran are. A parade of high level U.S. officials has visited Pakistan in this regard to press for more aggressive military efforts against Islamic militants & to criticize attempts to negotiate peace deals with extremists.
