Governor briefed about status of rehabilitation of flood victims



     


Leh, October 11 (Scoop News) -   N. N. Vohra, Governor, today visited Leh and took stock of the rehabilitation of the last year’s flash floods affected people and the work so far done for the restoration of infrastructure and public utilities.          


From the Airport, the Governor drove straight to the Solar Colony, where nearly 150 families affected by the last year’s flashfloods have been rehabilitated. He was briefed by Rigzin Spalbar, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh,  Tsering Sonam, Councillor of the area,  T. Angchok, Deputy Commissioner, Leh, and other officers about the facilities provided to the people at this rehabilitation Colony. The Governor visited the new tenements of two residents and interacted with a number of those residing in this Colony and enquired about their problems. He emphasized the need for well planned and time-bound facilities being created at this Colony which, interalia, include completion of circular and inner roads, a drainage system, toilet blocks, drinking water, power supply and healthcare services.          


 Tsering Sonam presented to the Governor the demands of the Colony which included opening of an LPG outlet, provision of a shopping centre and a bus to the town for the school going children.              


Earlier, the Governor, on arrival at the Leh Airport this morning, was given a traditional welcome by  Rigzin Spalbar, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh,  T. Angchok, Deputy Commissioner, Leh,  Stanzin Narboo, Additional SP Leh and District Officers. He was presented khataks on this occasion.          


s. Usha Vohra, First Lady and  R. K. Goyal, Principal Secretary to the Governor, accompanied him during the visit.          


Later, the Governor at a meeting held at the Conference Hall, Leh, was briefed by  Rigzin Spalbar, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh,  Ghulam Abbas Abidi, Executive Councillor, CAPD,  Sonam Dorjay, Executive Councillor, Agriculture, Councillors and Deputy Commissioner, particularly about the pace of relief and rehabilitation works in the affected villages.


      The Deputy Commissioner made a power point presentation in regard to the status of the restoration works of the flood damages of last year. These include reclamation of agricultural land that had come under debris in the flash floods, restoration of road connectivity, drinking water, irrigation and educational infrastructure, etc.


      The Governor enquired about measures taken for according sharp focus to develop agriculture and its allied sectors, particularly horticulture, vegetable cultivation, beekeeping, poultry, animal and sheep husbandry, and forestry to generate added incomes and employment avenues for the people of the area. He also enquired about the Vice Chancellor SKUAST’s visit to Leh district and was briefed about the progress made on the pasture development programme in the district.


      Presenting the important developmental needs of the district,  Rigzin Spalbar urged that measures should be taken for construction of a tunnel at Khardungla to facilitate smooth flow of traffic between Leh and Nubra Valley, particularly during the winter months, and early clearance of the project formulated for Permanent Restoration of Leh. The Councillors of the Hill Council present in the meeting highlighted the development needs of their respective areas. The Governor assured that he would take up their problems with the concerned authorities in the State and the Central Government.
