Indian Army Chief said 2000-2500 militants are waiting to infiltrate

Jammu, November 24,:Indian Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor on Tuesday said that  between 2000-2500 trained militants are waiting across the border to infiltrate inside the Indian territory and are camping across 42 militant training camps located near the line of control.

According to  News Agency Kashmir Independent Press (KIP) quoating army chief said Indian army is on high alert and taking all necessary steps to prevent infiltration and entry of militants inside the Indian territory.

Deepak Kapoor said this year the number of ceasefire violations has also come down in comparison to previous year adding the frequency of attacks on the security forces have, however, gone up in the state.

Commenting on the overall security situation prevailing along the line of control, Gen Kapoor said that rough estimates suggest that between 2000-2500 militants camping across 42 training camps were waiting to cross over inside the Indian territory.

In response to a question whether Taliban are also waiting to cross over from across the border the Army chief said that  the army is committed to ensure safety of  its citizens at all cost and whether it is  group of Taliban, Lashar cadre or Hizbul Mujahideen we are there to protect and guard the frontiers of the mother Nation.  

"We do not fear presence of Taliban and others, our jawans are maintaining a tight vigil and are on high alert", he added

Meanwhile the Chief of the Army Staff, General Deepak Kapoor called on Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, here today and remained with him for an hour.

      Various matters relating to the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and economic development were discussed in the meeting.

      Earlier, GOC 26 Infantry Maj. Gen Surendernath also called on Chief Minister.
