Indian Defence Minister & Army Chief visites Leh



Leh/Jammu,August 16 (Scoop News) - Indian Defence Minister fir state, Pallam Raju alongwith Rahul Gandhi and General VK Singh, , Chief of the Army Staff visited areas of Leh on Monday , which were ravaged by the recent cloud burst.


 


 During their visit, they were briefed by Lieutenant General SK Singh, AVSM, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps on the situation in Ladakh, due to the unprecedented heavy rainfall in the region and the efforts of the Army in providing succor to the locals, relief and rescue operations, restoration of connectivity with the rest of the country and ongoing rescue operations to locate missing army persons at Tyakshi. They visited the Military Hospital at Leh, where they  interacted with the patients, both civilian and army who had sustained injuries during the calamity.

They also visited Choglamsar Relief Camp, where they interacted with the locals of Choglamsar village who had lost their homes due to the devastation wrecked by the cloud burstThey were  briefed on the relief efforts undertaken by the army for the locals of the area. They also carried out aerial survey of flood affected areas.


 


 The General VK Singh, Chief of the Army Staff was briefed on the relief efforts undertaken by the army for the locals of the area.  He assured the civilians that the army would provide all possible assistance in their rehabilitation.  He also carried out aerial survey of calamity affected areas.


 


Later he left for Srinagar in J&K. On arrival in Srinagar, the Chief was received by Lt Gen B S Jaswal, GOC-in-C Northern Command and Lt Gen NC Marwah,GOC Chinar Corps. The Chief, besides interacting with senior officers of Chinar Corps at BB Cantt called on the Governor  NN Vohra and the Chief Minister  Omar Abdullah. The Chief accompanied by the Army Commander and GOC Chinar Corps is scheduled to visit forward areas along the Line of Control on August 17.
