Indian Defence Minister visits Leh to assess the damage in Calamity





Leh (Ladakh), September 8 (Scoop News) -Indian Defence Minister AK Antony accompanied by Lieutenant General PC Bhardwaj,  Vice Chief of Army Staff, visited Ladakh today.  The Defence Minister was received by Lieutenant General BS Jaswal, General Officer  Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command and Lieutenant General SK Singh, Corps Commander, Fire and Fury Corps, at Thoise.

 The Defence Minister was briefed by Lieutenant General SK Singh, on the rescue and relief operations at Tyakshi in Nubra Valley, where the Army had suffered casualties due to the mudslide on the night of 05/06 August 2010.  The Minister appreciated the Army’s efforts in rescue and relief operations in the area.

 Later in the day, Mr Antony flew over the calamity affected areas adjoining Leh to assess the damage. He was briefed by Lieutenant General SK Singh, the Fire and Fury Corps Commander on the latest situation in Ladakh and the role of the Army in providing succor to the affected people of Ladakh and restoration of connectivity along Zoji La and Rohtang axis.
