Indonesian Maid Is Beheaded In Saudi Arabia
The execution by beheading took place in the southern Asir province of Saudi Arabia. It is the second execution to take place in Saudi Arabia since 2008.
The Indonesian maid was charged and convicted of murdering her female boss. The method of murder was by strangulation. Along with the charges of murdering her boss, the maid was also charged with stealing her jewelry as well.
Serious crimes such as rape and murder can carry the death penalty in Saudi Arabia as it is a conservative desert kingdom. Beheadings are usually carried out in front of the whole public.
In the previous year, over 130 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia. Fewer than 40 people were executed in 2006. This is due to Saudi Arabia following a strict interpretation of Sharia or Islamic law.
