Internet Helps Catch Suspected Pedophile Wayne Nelson Corliss

The Associated Press is reporting that Wayne Nelson Corliss, has been apprehended on charges of sexually abusing three very young boys in Southeast Asia,  Corliss was located after international police organization Interpol posted his photo on their website May 5, 2008.  Three days, and some 250,000 website visits later, cops in Union City, NJ detained Wayne Nelson Corliss, 58.

Speaking to the AP, Interpol Secretary-General Ronald Noble said, "live by the sword, die by the sword," alluding to the fact that the internet allowed Corliss to propagate his sexual abuse, but also led to his capture.

Technology plays a large and growing role in Interpol operations.  They identified Corliss after seizing a computer in Norway owned by another convicted sex offender.  They then ran the images through an Interpol database of more than 520,000. Interpol did not release pictures in which they allege Corliss is engaged in sexual acts with minors.

Interpol will likely use the tactic in the future, as they cited the campaigns "extraodrinary success" in finding the suspect.
