J & K CM Omar Abdullah grants 1 lakh to orphan school of Argam, Kashmir,
Calls for striking balance between curricular, extra-curricular activities
Jammu, February 18 - The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah affectionately received a batch of orphan students from Al-Murtaza Educational Institute, Argam, Bandipora,Kashmir here today and spent over one hour with them. He enquired about their experiences from their maiden educational tour outside the State and announced a grant of Rs, 1 lakh, besides a computer system to the school.

These students returned from the educational tour, which had been arranged and sponsored by the Government on the intervention of the Chief Minister so that an opportunity is provided to them to acquant them about places of historical and cultural importance.
Narrating their joyful experiences of visiting various places across the country, the students thanked the Chief Minister for his gesture.
Mohammed Akbar Lone, MLA, Sonawari was also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile in a School function asking the educationists to think of bringing a suitable change in the present-day education system to ensure holistic child development, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Wednesday, said it seems that young buds who are overburdened by curricular activities are gradually losing their childhood.
The Chief Minister was addressing the Annual Day function of JK Public school at Kunjwani, today. MLA, Sonawari, Mohammad Akbar Lone was also present on the occasion.
Stating that over-all development of child is the need of the hour, Omar said that we have to create conducive atmosphere which ensures academic as well as extra-curricular excellence among the students. "We have to strike a balance in a way that curricular and extra-curricular activities go hand-in-hand and young children enjoy their childhood while studying", he added.
He asked teachers that while nurturing the students to achieve new highs in science, technology and modern studies, equal attention is paid to outdoor activities like sports, travel, etc which enables physical and mental development of the child.
Earlier, the Principal of the school presented a resume of the academic and co-curricular activities initiated by the school and introduced students who had achieved distinction in academic and co-curricular activities. She gave details of the functioning and efforts of the school for ensuring overall development of the students. The Principal thanked the Chief Minister for gracing the occasion and encouraging the students.
Later, Abdullah gave away trophies and prizes to the outstanding students on the occasion.
A cultural programme depicting various aspects of social life and protection of environment and presented by students of the school was also appreciated by the audience.
