J&K Govt boosting & promoting the winter sports at Gulmarg:Chib

January 31, 2011 Gulmarg/Srinagar, January 31 (Scoop News) – Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, R. S. Chib today said that the government has initiated various measures for boosting and promoting the winter sports at Gulmarg keeping in view its world recognition.
RS Chib was addressing the function of winter sports at Gulmarg today. He also distributed awards and certificates among 60 children of various districts of the state who had completed 15 days course in intermediate, basic and advanced courses in the Skiing at Gulmarg.
Besides, Director General, Youth Services and Sports, Shameem Ahmad Laherwal, Deputy Director, Mrs. Neelofar, Media, tourists and other people were present on the occasion.
Chib said the slopes on Gulmarg, necessary for Skiing are being considered as the best in the world adding that the winter sports lovers are visiting this place round the year particularly in winter to take advantage of the snow bound slopes and its glory.
The Minister said that government is also promoting other sports activities and it is encouraging that many sports persons of the
Chib lauded the role of Youth Services and Sports department for promoting sports activities and said the department got 53 medals in various sports activities this year including one gold medal in south Asian Championship while 43 medals were got by the department last year.
Chib instructed the officers of YSS to enhance the food charges to children to Rs. 75 which would be further enhanced to Rs. 100 next year. He also said that fresh Skiing equipments would be provided for imparting training in the Skiing field.
