J&K lone women minister honored with “Bharat Jyoti Award”



New Delhi/Jammu,December 5 (Scoop News) – J&K Minister for Social Welfare, Ms. Sakina Itoo has been honored with a prestigious “Bharat Jyoti Award” here on yesterday evening for her commendable social services. The award was presented to her by the Governor of Chhattisgarh at a seminar, organized on the topic “ Global Participation in India’s Economic Development” by India International Friendship Society (IIFS).  Two personalities from the State, Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather and Member Parliament, Dr. Mehboob Baigh have previously been honored with this prestigious award.


            Speaking on the occasion, Ms Sakina said  that India has risen as the most desired destination for foreign investors, adding that major strides made by our country in Information Technology, Human Resources, Agriculture, retail market and manufacturing sectors has ensured India’s economic growth at an impressive 9% annually.


            The Minister said that growing private sector has entered in an era of Corporate Social Responsibility that has worked in collaboration with Government agencies to improve the societal values  of the country,  “We can see benefits of this new relationship in Jammu and Kashmir which is a perfect blend of regional and communal harmony” she added.


            She said the recent visit of US President Mr. Barak Obama further strengthened India’s position globally and his statement about India will have a cascading effect on other Western nations.


            Ms Sakina said that gains of economic development have allowed India to draft new policies and programmes for betterment of socio economic sector of the country. She said the liberal financial assistance from the Centre to the State of Jammu and Kashmir, under various schemes, has facilitated greatly the improvement in the living condition especially  women and children in the State.


            The Minister said that as a welfare state, India is committed to the uplift and development of its people, particularly, the vulnerable sections like women and children, the scheduled castes (SCs), scheduled tribes (STs, backward classes, minorities and the physically challenged persons.


            “Let us make a commitment that we as responsible citizens will continue to uphold all democratic values and facilitate participation of marginalized sections so that they become equal partners  in social and economic development of the country”, she maintained.
