JK Govt orders new timing for convoy movement on Srinagar-Kargil NH
Srinagar,July 12 (Scoop News) - In order to streamline the traffic system and ensure its proper regulation in the State, a high level meeting of officers were held here today under the chairmanship of Minister for Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon .

The meeting deliberated threadbare various issues including change of timing for plying of vehicles on Srinagar-Kargil National High Way, removing of snag if any in traffic signal system in Srinagar and its operation in Jammu city besides construction of tunnel at Zojila.
The meeting decided to change the timing for plying of vehicles on Srinagar-Kargil National Highway with immediate effect in view of construction of road by Border Roads Organization (BRO) as the work for construction of tunnel at Zojila is being commenced shortly.
The meeting also decided that as per the new timing the down convoy from Kargil to Sonamerg shall have to start movement from Kargil towards Drass at 4.00 a. m, from Drass to Gumri at 6.00 p.m and from Gumri at 10.00 a. m so that the convoy reaches Sonamerg at 11.00 a.m.
Likewise the timing for up convoy from Sonamerg to Kargil shall have to start from 11.00 a.m to 3.00 p. m, from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from 3.p.m to 8.30- p. m the road will remain closed for operation by the BRO who have to start work on construction of road and tunnel. However, this timing will not affect the normal movement of light vehicles, the meeting decided.
The meeting was informed that the installation of traffic signals system in Srinagar city has proved fruitful for smooth traffic movement. However the Minister instructed the concerned authorities to remove snag, if any immediately.
The meeting decided that the traffic signal system in Jammu city would be made operational within 15 days for which all necessary formalities have been completed.
The meeting was informed that foundation stone for construction of 6 km tunnel from Gagangir to Sonamerg shall be laid in the first week of September for which necessary formalities have been completed. Accordingly the process for construction of II phase 13 Kmt tunnel from Baltal to Menamerg is being completed.
