JK Minister gives away Jambu lochan sports award
Jammu, February 06 (Scoop News) – Minister for Youth Services and Sports R S Chib today gave away Maharaja Jambu Lochan Sports Award to three persons who have represented the state at international level as expert of the Kabaddi game.
The award carries a memento, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs. 21,000 and is given to those persons who have shown excellence as expert in Kabaddi game at international level and worked for its promotion at local level.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Maharaja Jambu Lochan Sports Award was a newly instituted award and being conferred for the first time in the state. He hoped that the award will prove helpful in promoting Kabaddi sport in the state.
The Minister said that the state has a vast potential in sports and reiterated the need for its exploration and channelization. He said the government, under the stewardship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has launched various infrastructure developmental projects in the sports sector.
Chib reiterated the commitment of the government to explore the sports talent of youth of the state, adding that preparations are on for organizing Jammu Premier League on the analogy of Kashmir Premier League in collaboration with 16 Corps and
Later, the Minister gave away mementoes, certificates and cash prizes of Rs. 21,000 each to the awardees. The three award recipients are Kuldeep Kumar Gupta, S. Bhupinder Singh Tirthi and Dinesh Gupta.
Speaking on the occasion President, J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association Anil Gupta, gave a resume of the Association activities. He said that the Kabaddi team represented the state at international and national levels on various occasions and brought laurels.
Among others, Director, Youth services and Sports S. Jaipal Singh, Senior Vice- President, J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, Vice- President, J&K Kabaddi Association Anil Padha besides sports lovers were present.
