Kashmir University to host 6th JK science congress

Srinagar, November 30 (Scoop News) –About 1000 delegates from all Indian states are participating in the 6th JK science congress which Kashmir university is hosting from 2nd of December in Kashmir University Campus.

About 600 research papers covering various spheres of science will be read during the three day conference which will commence at Kashmir Universities convocation complex from 2nd of December.

In the past five Annual Science Congresses have so far been organized, three [in 2005, 2007 and 2009] at University of Jammu and two [in 2006 and 2008] at University of Kashmir. The conduct of these Science Congresses has significantly improved the level of coordination in scientific pursuits between different institutions and/or laboratories located across the state as well as outside the State, as is clearly revealed from the number of abstracts in the present volume that are based on  joint efforts of scientists placed in different laboratories.

The J&K Science congress is the appropriate forum for presentation and cross fertilization of ideas by local scientists and experts in response to anticipated needs for regional sustainable development. “As is quite apparent from the research papers to be presented in the forthcoming Congress, the academia and scientific fraternity of the State have taken the challenge in the right perspective and most of the presentations are well focused and oriented towards sustainable development of the region.”  Said Prof A R Yousuf convenor of the congress . More than nine hundred research workers, majority of them located within the State of Jammu and Kashmir, have contributed more than 475 research papers for presentation in the Congress. The Abstracts of these research papers are included in the present Congress Abstract Book. Most of the presentations are based on joint work and a significant number of them being outcome of work conducted at more than one research laboratory, which is a very healthy sign

. The main aim of holding the Congress is to broaden the scientific and technological understanding of the researchers working in these institutions, especially the young and budding researchers so as to improve (a) research and teaching of sciences, (b) quality of scientific man-power, and to encourage interdisciplinary research and promote scientific temper in the youth that is greatly needed for the sustainable development of the region.
