Member of parliament sentenced after harassing a journalist

A member of parliament coming from Central Malawi was on Friday slapped with a three months sentence for wounding a journalist working for Daily Times.
The MP had gone to the journalists's office after the journalist ,Dickson Kashoti ,wrote a story saying the Mp was seen at the Police station to see his brother who had killed his wife.
The Mp was then frustrated and beat the journalist several times resulting into injury.
Passing the sentence Magistrate Mzondi Mvula said Members of Parliament are supposed to be examplary and hence sentenced him to three months imprisonment .
However, because the MP is a chairman of the Public Appointments Committee, he suspended it for three months.
It is not known whether he will maintain his seat or not.
