Nepali petroleum pump workers postpone strike; oil to become available

Petroleum pump workers based in eastern Nepal on Tuesday declared the postponement of their strike as it caused inconvenience to people due to the closure of petroleum pumps.

Govinda Prasad Rijal, Coordinator of All Nepal Petroleum Workers’ Association (ANPWA), told reporters that the workers’ negotiation with petroleum pump owners in the eastern Nepal ended without any decision since the entrepreneurs were reluctant to follow the Labor Act that has stated that the workers are entitled to permanent appointment letter after 240 days’ of their work.

According to ANPWA, the workers have withdrawn from the strike for two weeks to create some convenience for people though the entrepreneurs were not flexible towards their demand.

In Nepal, workers live miserable lives. Most of them have to live below one dollar a day.
