New ropeway projects for Srinagar & Jammu



Jammu, April 20 (Scoop News) –State Cable Car Corporation (SCCC) has earned a revenue of Rs. 12.48 crore at Gulmarg during last fiscal and has fixed a revenue target of Rs. 14 crore for current financial year. The Corporation has also taken up construction of Rs. 17.87 crore Kungdoori Chair Lift which would also be thrown open during current financial year.


            This was given out at 29th Board of Directors meeting of the Corporation held here today under the chairmanship of Minister for Tourism and Culture,  Nawang Rigzin Jora.


            The meeting reviewed physical and financial achievements registered by Corporation during last fiscal and took some decisions for making the Corporation more viable and commercial, besides early commissioning of new ropeway projects to be executed in Srinagar and Jammu cities for promoting tourism activities.  


            The Minister of State for Tourism and Culture,  Nasir Aslam Wani, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister,  B. B. Vyas, Commissioner Secretary Finance,  Sudhanshu Pandy, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Chief Wild Life Warden, Vice Chairman Jammu Development Authority,  Vinod Sharma, Managing Director JKTDC,  Satish Nehru, Director Tourism, Kashmir,  Farooq Ahmed Shah, Director Tourism, Jammu,  R. S. Mehta, Managing Director J&K Cable Car Corporation,  Tulat Parveez, Chief Engineer Mechanical,  besides representatives of RITEs and other senior officers of the Corporation attended the meeting. 


            The meeting was informed that construction work of indigenous passenger ropeway Makhdoom Sahib has already started and would be completed during this financial year.


            While reviewing the status of ropeway from Mubarak Mandi to Mahamaya to Shahabad Bahu Fort it was decided that all technical, codal and land acquisition matters for execution of the project would be completed at the earliest.


            The proposal for laying of ropeway project in Doda, Ashmuqam also came under discussion in the meeting and it was decided that these projects would be taken up through PPP model (BOOT).                 


            Overhauling of Section-1, purchase of hydraulic and electrical items of Gulmarg Gondola Project, adoption of accounts for the year 1997-98 & 98-99, 99-2000, 2000-2001, 2001-2002, conversion of COLA into DA to the employees, filling up of 12 vacancies of technicians, approval of annual plan, revision in the delegation of financial powers of Managing Director of the Corporation were among other agenda points discussed in the meeting and appropriate decisions taken for making the Corporation more vibrant.


            Speaking on the occasion, the Minister underscored the need for early implementation of the decisions taken by BOD’s time to time for making the Corporation more vibrant and viable.


            The Minister said policy of the Government is to promote tourist attractions in all the regions of the State, adding that laying of ropeways at Jammu, Srinagar, Doda and Ashmuqam besides other scenic areas of the State is also a part of the initiatives taken by the Government.      


             Jora exhorted upon the concerned officers to use their expertise for ensuring good quality ropeway projects. He instructed that impediments like acquisition of land, forest, wildlife and pollution clearances would be resolved in close coordination with the concerned departments. He also instructed for seeking advice from reputed companies while formulating tourist attraction projects in the State.
