Omar Abdullah sworn-in as youngest CM of Jammu & Kashmir
Jammu (J&K) – The Governor, N. N. Vohra, administered oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Omar Abdullah as the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir at a glittering swearing-in ceremony in Jammu on Monday afternoon, attended by various dignitaries including UPA Chairperson and Congress President, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and External Affairs Minister, Pranab Mukherjee.
By assuming office,Omar Abdullah, 38, became the youngest Chief Minister of
Tara Chand, Abdul Rahim Rather, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Surjit Singh Slathia and Sham Lal Sharma were also sworn-in as cabinet ministers.
As Omar Abdullah, attired in a black sherwani, took oath, he was watched by his close family members including his father and former Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, mother, Mrs. Mollie Abdullah, wife, Mrs. Payal Abdullah, sons, Zahir and Zamir, sisters and other relatives, friends and admirers.
Among other dignitaries present at the swearing-in ceremony were JKPCC President and Union Minister for Water Resources, Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz, former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Mr. Prithvi Raj Chavan, Members of Parliament, Dr. Karan Singh, Sachin Pilot, Mehbooba Mufti, who is also the President of PDP and Rajeev Shukla, legislators, political leaders, senior officers and prominent citizens.
The function, also attended by several top industrialists of the country, was widely covered by media, even as news channels telecast the event live.
Later, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and other dignitaries congratulated Mr. Abdullah on assuming the high responsibility in the State and wished him success.
