PDP leader asks Sarpanches, Panches to serve people with dedication

May 30, 2011 Bijbehara,/Srinagar, May30 (Scoop News) – Former Minister and MLA Bijbehara Abdul Rehman Veeri today called upon the newly elected members of the Panchayats to work with dedication and sincerity to come up to the expectations of the common people.
Addressing a function at Town Hall Mattan to felicitate newly elected Sarpanches and Panches of Bijbehara assembly segment, Abdul Rehman Veeri said that over-whelming response to the PDP in the on-going Panchayat elections is a clear indication that people of state are fed up with the two and half year mis-goverance of mis-rule of the present government headed by Omar Abdullah. He further added that Panchayat results are endorsement of the pro-people agenda being propagated by the PDP since its formation and it is also appreciation of the good work done by the previous PDP-Congress regime in the State.
Veeri said that previous PDP-Congress regime has not only set an example of good governance but also started the reconciliation process to restore lasting peace in this region. He said that it was result of the pro-peace policies of the previous regime that peace was restored in the state and peoples’ faith was also revived in the democratic institutions. He mentioned that impressive turn out in the 2008 assembly elections were outcome of the good work done by the PDP led regime in the State.
The former Minister, however, regretted that the present dispensation headed by Omar Abdullah has failed to carry forward that agenda of peace and development. He said that due to oppressive policies of the present government alienation among masses has been increasing and government has lost its credibility.
Exhorting the newly elected Panchayat members to serve the people with dedication, Veeri said that it is duty of the Panchayat members to ensure proper implementation of various schemes at the grass root level. He further asked the Panches and Sarpanches to ensure that genuine people would get benefit of the schemes meant for economically weaker sections of the society. He said that people have very high expectations from the Panchayats members so it is their duty to serve the masses with missionary zeal and sincerity.
Expressing his gratitude towards people for electing majority of the PDP Sarpanches and Panches, he said that PDP has emerged as premier political force in the State.
