PGMA to Attend PMA Graduation Rites, spends Holy Week in Baguio City

President Gloria Arroyo will attend the Philippine Military Academy graduation rites this coming 18 March 2008 and will stay and spend Holy Week in Baguio City. The graduating BAGHAWI Class of 2008 will be having their final march in the hallowed ground of the PMA compound to receive their military diplomas from the commander-in-chief.

There are 220 graduating cadets of BAGHAWI Class who would be joining the four services of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. In the top 10 graduating cadets, only one female made the list in academic excellence and ranked number three. A former class instructor from Zamboanga in southern Philippines is the class valedictorian.

Traditionally, after graduation PMA valedictorian is immediately send to West Point, the US Military Academy located in New York. The PMA graduate undergoes in advance military study, training and doctrine under the strict supervisions of US military officers.

The immersion is purposely for the improvement of self discipline, duty, moral standard and the responsibility to serve and protect the nation in war and in peace. This year’s PMA graduates are hopefully will dispense their duties and responsibilities with sincerity, moral integrity and unqualified service to the nation.

Holy Week is only a day after the PMA graduation and so president Arroyo would just spend Holy Week in the city of pines. Baguio City is a good place to meditate and contemplate where one could ease all worries and sins that bothers the minds of erring souls.
