Plant tree, re-excavate rivers and save Bangladesh.

Plant tree, re-excavate rivers and save Bangladesh.

Truly speaking, Bangladesh is the most vulnerable country in the world from the ecological point of view. Each and every year we are losing a lot of national and personal wealth due to natural disasters. Climatologists believe that the southern part of Bangladesh is at very risky position. If everything goes in the swim or if proper steps are not taken, the southern part will go under water very soon. The districts of Satkhira and Bagerhat are the worse sufferers in this case. SIDR, Aila, Flood and Tsunami are some of the clear indications that the day is no more in far that a part of Bangladesh will be submerged within a couple of years. The government, policy makers and the common people have a great role to play here. Government can take some strong and feasible steps to control it. Now, question is how? Government can take a project on tree plantation in the affected area. For this reason, the government can use the students and teachers of school and colleges of that area to plant trees. They will do it voluntarily to save their area and this will minimize costs. And a lot of student will take part in it; the project will be faster. But the government has to provide the plants and auxiliaries. Besides many of the rivers in this affected area is now about to die. For example, The Kapatakhi is one of the well known rivers in Bangladesh, which is situated in Khulna division. But it is a matter of great regret that this river is about to die. There is no way of removing flood unless this river is re-excavated. Before a few months ago, some Upozila like Tala, Paikgacha and Asasuni were extremely flooded. And it lasted for several weeks. But this area never flooded in the past when the river Kapatakhi was young and energetic, when Michael Madhusudan Dutt used to write the great sonnet the “Kapatakhi Nod”. The miseries of the affected people of this area knew no bounds during flood. But the aid was so little that it is not better to describe. What will the government do if every year these natural disasters happen? Now it is high time the government and the policymakers took some major changes in the policy. Excavate the rivers deeply, plant many trees, built some more cyclone center, make some embankments and save the deprived and ill fated subjects of this area and last of all save Bangladesh. If the government cannot save the people of these two districts now, how it will save the rest of the people in future when disasters much dangerous than AILA, SIDR, TSUNAMI will come?
